: Hi, Our facility started incorporating the Eden Alternative in our facility. That was a while ago and it never went anywhere. But I recall someone saying the same thing as you. They were very allergic to the birds. What they were told was that if they had someone clean the cages daily and give the birds baths once a week then the dander from the birds would not be bad and their allergies should be controllable. Other than that I recommend a really good air filter that you could have in your office and run it on high all the time. My girlfriend raises rabbits but is very allergic to them and she wears masks when around the animals as well. Good luck! Tell your boss maybe two heads can come up with some way of soothing the allergies. Maybe you just need to relocate the birds or put them where there is a little more ventilation. Good Luck! Rene
: Greetings. Our facility is making some wonderful changes related to the Eden Alternative. This includes the addition of cats, dogs and birds. I love animals and know they offer a tremendous amount of comfort to our folks, but I am allergic to the birds!! My office is located just a few feet away from their cages. By the end of each week, I can hardly talk because my throat is so sore, my eyes itch and my nose runs!! The allergy medication makes me too sleepy!! There is no where else to move me or the birds. I haven't told administration about my allergy. They have received a lot of grief from staff and some family members about the animals, and I don't want them to think I don't like the program.
: In the past, the allergy was so severe, I was hospitalized twice. I love my job, the residents love the birds!! any suggestions??
