Greetings. Our facility is making some wonderful changes related to the Eden Alternative. This includes the addition of cats, dogs and birds. I love animals and know they offer a tremendous amount of comfort to our folks, but I am allergic to the birds!! My office is located just a few feet away from their cages. By the end of each week, I can hardly talk because my throat is so sore, my eyes itch and my nose runs!! The allergy medication makes me too sleepy!! There is no where else to move me or the birds. I haven't told administration about my allergy. They have received a lot of grief from staff and some family members about the animals, and I don't want them to think I don't like the program.
In the past, the allergy was so severe, I was hospitalized twice. I love my job, the residents love the birds!! any suggestions??
