: does any one have any good activity ideas for this day

We have a mini-museum every year. We ask staff, residents, family members (Our own included),anyone we ever met, etc... to bring in anything related to the armed services. We, then sort, and display the items for two days. We've set up displays for WWII, Vietnam,etc... or to honor certain branches of the military depending on the items people bring in. We've had a parachute from WWII, an army cot, cantene,k-rations, etc that we set up to look like camp. We've had uniforms, awards, discharge papers, even a Purple Heart. We've had unusual items like a matchbook with a picture and name of an air craft carrier on it. We were honored to have two Tuskegee Airmen here to sit and talk to the residents about their experiences, plus they brought tons of memorabilia to look at. We set up a display honoring Bob Hope's work (All pictures and info. came from the internet) We had a display just for the USO. (Someone brought in a flag that lit up, so it looked "Hollywood-ish") One display showed pictures from the Vietnam memorial. (internet) We usually borrow videos from the library and have them running at each appropriate area. (A documentary about Vietnam near that particular display.) We even tried to get the local armory to bring some vehicles over, but that never happened! It's alot of work, and of course, all items must be kept in a secure spot, but it is very popular!
