I always think a Polka Band adds to an Oktoberfest. If a band is beyond your means, why not try for an accordion player? If your residents are allowed, a beer tasting is fun, think micor brewery! A med cup holds just enough for a taste! There is always " near beer" which is alcohol free too. German or Oktoberfest trivia is fun, and you can play the pretzel game: how many pretzels can you stack on a pretzel rod? ( you get the traditional knotted pretzels, and a rod, thread them onto the rod one at a time....who can get to the top first or thread on the most without breaking them. Don't forget to have mustard for them to dip their winning pretzels in. Everyone gets to eat their own!Chair polkas are fun too. You might try giving everyone German names for the evening. If you are very adventurous, there are beer making kits out there, you could make a batch of your own, and crack it open for your Festivities! If all of the beer stuff is verboten for you...substitute root beer...there are even enough kinds to do a tasting! We always serve potato pancakes and have a variety of toppings and go withs for them. Which reminds me of another games...stuff the wurst....it is played by stuffing one leg of a pair of pantyhose with batting.....competition style, either individually or as a team. The wurst has to be stuffed enough to give it a nice firm body, nobody likes a limp wurst! :) Good Luck with your Oktoberfest!
