Martie...Unfortunately, the health care business (business being the operative word here!) IS all about census!! That's what healthcare is all about...how much money can we make! I, too, am being cynical. I am an Activity Director and my work focuses on my resident's well-being and quality of life. I usually feel like I am on the other side of the fence as the rest of the facility is dollar-driven. How do I handle it? I see it for what it is, but I personally focus on our residents and how I can improve their life and provide daily enjoyment. There is no getting around the money aspect (unless you are maybe a very small privately owned home). Just do your job , make the residents happy to the best of your ability and try not to see how your company is only looking at the money! Bottom line...just do your job.
