All of these are good suggestions, but I really understand the challenges of planning for residents with dementia without blocking out the majority of your residents. Its hard to find something that they can enjoy that still might cater to higher functioning residents. This is especially hard in IL/AL.
A couple of thoughts--
What about jigsaw puzzles or poetry readings. I have also found games like scrabble are very popular with my residents with dementia. (Although we do keep score, we play non-competitively and help each other out). Spelling Bees also seem to work. Lastly, ANY sort of music works--if sing-a-longs are too much for them to remember, they can atleast enjoy the music being offered!
Although in many cases things like folding clothes, etc might work, my residents--even those with a little dementia, would balk at the idea of "laundry time" on the calendar! I don't know, I just don't see it appealing to IL residents, but where there's a will, there's always a way, I'm sure you could figure something out!
