Our ladies gather on their own, every day that the Activity Room isn't being used (we do activities on the units in spite of having this great room) and they do their altered books. Many of the higher functioning ladies and gentlemen have gotten into this NEW craft. If you need to know what altered books are, just do a search on the internet using google.com for "altered books" and you will see lots of great ideas!
In the 28 years of doing activities this is the first time that residents have come on their own, with their own materials and stuff from families to do these altered books. We have purchased the video, which they have watched several times on their own, gotten the how to books at the local craft store and have read all the articles about altered books!
Give it a try the higher functioning residents don't even want to go out because they want to work on their books!
