Kevin, that's awesome. We had a Pain Management teaching video made here for the state of Ohio and it starred some of our residents actually acting out certain parts. For instance, One was "the lady who didn't say she was in pain, but her face showed it!" We have our own consent forms, but I believe that the film company did, too. Each resident received a certificate from the state for participating.
On a side note, our sister facility is in an older hospital building and it was chosen by an independent film company to make a movie called "Love in s Straight Jacket" about a young couple who fall in love on a psych unit. No residents were in it, but it was kind of neat anyway. If anyone has ever heard of this movie, let me know. We never got to see it!
: I have a rare and unique event soon to happen at my facility. We have a resident that was a Blues performer, who is having a professional film crew doing his documentary. We are talking about PROFESSIONAL! This will eventually have a theater release. It is being done by one of the cinematographers of Lucas productions, (he was the special effects editor for Star Wars!!!) this has been in the making for 8 years! This film already is expected to win awards. They are finishing it up in August.
: Now that we have HIPPA, (not that we didn't always have it) and it is such a hot issue now, we have to be soooo careful that privacy rights are not violated. The film crew has already secured releases when they started this, for the fellow they are filming, and I understand they did do some here at my facility 8 years ago.(hippa was on the back burner then..) None of the major players in admin. (admin, DON, etc.) are here now, that were there then, and there is concern now about what is an "invasion" or "violation" and what is not...
: I see all this as a positive and wonderful opportunity for everyone concerned! Even better than Cocoon if you remember, that was filmed at a nursing home here in fla. because this is REAL! and real life in a nursing home.. no actors.
: Anyway...... getting to the point....Has anyone out there even come close to to a situation like this? film crews within a facility? for TV? or even loved ones videotaping a b'day party? etc? Where should lines be drawn? We gonna be closing a lot of doors? No filming down hallways? only in common areas? Resident Council approval of course, and approval of administration, and ughhh... Corporate..
: Corporate... that will be my toughest nut to crack.. so I need all the ammunition I can get!
: Thanks!
