I try to draw an activity to a natural end by saying something like "before we close I would like to share" or We will close with this song ( for a singalong) or Lets sing Happy Birthday to Mary who is having a birthday today before we all leave, or some such thing. They then are warned that the time is coming to an end. I also put on some music or a video of a Musical program and many do stick around and share this. I am currently trying to get the residents at my facility to engage in more independant activity, and this is one of the steps. I come back and check on them every 15 minutes or so, and they are doing very well at it.
