: what do you do if anything when your activity is finished and your group disbans. i usualy say the activity is now over and that sends alot to the front door. i do this so the staff hopefully know their assigned residents are loose.?

Yeah, that is a kind of awkward moment, is'nt it? I guess the "textbook" way of ending a program would be shaking everyone hands and thank them for coming. I try to do this, but sometimes there are distractions and "fires" to be put out or wheelchair bumper cars. We have to do some elevator transporting....the rush to the elevator can sometimes be pandamonium. Our CNA's are not very helpful when it comes to transporting..........so it is usually up to the rec staff and volunteers to get folks to the right floor...........When we program on the floor.........I think it is best to leave them on their own . Hopefully the program will encourage their sociability and they will linger and maybe chat with each other or at least sit with each other and "feel" the comradiere and fellowship. I try to have music playing in the tape deck to ease the transition
