I know that I may be beating a dead horse, here. I know that I am ranting and raving. But honestly you know and I know, that paperwork ( as much as we complain about it) is an "escape hatch" for us sometimes when we simply want to avoid residents. (this goes for all dept.'s ) I know this sounds brutally harsh. I think that all departments manipulatively use the excuse that our hands need to be on the charts instead of on our residents! God, only knows that there is always a plethora of paperwork to be completed. I think sometimes we write for the "STATE" instead of writing for the benefit of the interdisciplinary team or for the actual resident. I just wish we could all ban together to start from scratch and simplify the paper requirements. Hippa is now yet another layer heaped on an already overburdened pile. Do we use "paperwork" as an excuse to avoid our residents? I know that it is imposed upon us. But if we "hate " it so much why are'nt we all clamouring and lobbying with our state legislators to "thin down" the regulations!
