What about a "life station"? Maybe a desk and a typewriter and some things to file? The life station would depend on their interest and what they did for a living. BUT I do agree that just sitting there is an activity. It is a cognitive, emotional and social activity. What about making this an activity on your calendar? Maybe like chat time in the lobby? Maybe you could make them the welcoming committee and they could have a pin or something that they wear that designates that they are the welcoming committee. We have a rose pin that residents wear in independent living that designates that they are the welcomers. Hope this helps, I was just browsing through and thought I might add my piece.
