Hi, I am looking for information on what your hairdressers are using in your hairshop for special equipment for heavier care clients.
In our facility it is becoming very difficult to wash some of our residents hair in our present regular type of beauty parlor sink. Many residents are unable to hold their head back in the sink for a shamppo and especially a perm. We tried special capes I purchased from the States that funnel a certain amount of water back in the sink for those residents who are unable to tilt their head back. We tried some residents by getting them to lean forward in the sink. It helps some but we are either sending the residents back soaked or the soap and perm solution is not being rinsed out properly.
We are in the process of having nursing wash their heads on their bath day and have the hairdressers just cut, set and style their hair after their bath day.
There has to be better equipment available out there somewhere for the type of clients we have now and will have in the future.
I have some feelers out to hairshop companies.
I hear there are hydrolic sinks that adjust to different heights but that doesn't solve the problems of residents not being able to tilt their heads back over the sink.
What do you all do? Do the nursing staff or recreation help the hairdresser with difficult residents, do volunteers or families help? The hairshop is under the umbrella of my department :-( I would appreciate any feedback on what you are doing in your facilities with heavier care clients and what is working for you. Thanks alot.
Linda
