I prefer to call it all "empowerment" issues. It takes a lot of time and energy investment into empowering the "high functioning" residents into making their own activities and own plans on what they want to do so that you can actually spend your professional skills with residents who really need them. You have to start slow and take one baby step at a time, but believe me it is worth every step that you take to empower these residents to do activities on their own. ONCE you have made your plan and written your goals for total empowerment, then its a long and rocky road, but extremely worth it. Start slow like setting them up with a program and asking them to help out and continue on. Make a written plan and have the entire team in on it. Good Luck! It works it really works, just be prepared for a long road ahead.
