: I am pretty new to this profession and have come into a facility that is pretty new also. They have almost no supplies - especially for the dimentia unit. I have just hired an aide to help out with recreation on that floor and would like to get some ideas as to supplies and activities that really work for your dimentia units. So far I have only ordered puzzles and some balls, tic tac toe game. Please help me. Any input would be helpful! Thanks!

Balloons! We play "Balloon Bop" (alot) It's one game to get them moving when nothing else will. You would be surprised at how many residents who are unable to do other games, can (& will) do this! Sit residents in a circle (you stand in the center), blow up a balloon, and "bop" it to each person having them bop it back. (I get each persons attention by calling their name before I bop it to them.) Play upbeat backgroud music. That's another thing...Music is a MUST...all residents respond to some type of music!
