Hi,
Here are some of the boxes we use:
Jewelry: various necklaces, beads, clip on earrings and a mirror to admire oneself in.
Tool: various tool, no sharps,
Baby: baby bottle, bibs, little socks and shoes, baby brush and comb, pacy,
Sewing: pin coushion (no pins), tape measure, pattern, spools of thread, buttons,
Greeting cards to sort through
sports cards: baseball, football, basketball, to sort or group together
picture cards: pictures cut from magazines or calendars glued to 3x5 cards: different themes, all dog, all cat, fruits, cars etc.
beads to sort: by color, size, shape
Beach basket: sea shells, empty bottle of tanning lotion, small bottle filled with sand & water
Silk flowers: different sizes, colors
Office supplies: pen, pencil, notebook, 3x5 cards, rubberbands etc.
Nuts & bolts: the large sizes work best.
Some of our sensory items: large & small fish tank with the fake fish that swim, fiber optic lights, lava lamp, pin sculpture, light bright, gravity balls, scented lotions, scented sprays, stuffed animals, sounds tape (birds has been our best one) bubbles, ballons,
Household "tasks"
folding wash cloths and towels, dish cloths, napkins,: sorting socks, sorting silverware, (we have our own for this activity it's not the facilities:-))
Items to occupy "busy hands"
connect four; putting the checkers in the slots: "tubers and zots", legos a "lock box" a box with different latches and openings: finger puzzles: lincoln logs and tinker toys: roll yarn (place a ball of yarn in a decorated coffee can put the lid back one, resident pulls the yarn through a hole in the lid and rolls it into a ball: tracer beads: rubber puzzles
Picture books: made from calanders, put in plastic sleeves and then in a binder: old airplanes, dogs, cats, kittens, wild animals, babies
now, if I could just get the CNA's to use this stuff .......!!!
