: With all of the responsibilities and polotics, a competant Director of Activities would do well as the leader of a country! After being in the "poor house" for a couple of years (Activity Assistant) and kicked around by polotics that are just as bad or worse than being in the sales industry, I've somewhat begrudgingly decided to be a Director of Activities instead of an Assistant to the Director of Activities.
: My goal is a clean shake down with the polotics while smoothly taking over the reigns of all the books that is so essential in running a tight ship.
: I bought into this gig as an operation that is already running fine (up to date books, intact volunteer program, trained assistants, even an ex Director who will ease me into the books). Soon I will meet this ex Director who will show me the books. Needless to say I am very aprehensive about this. I'm a certified Activity Leader and I'm no stranger to assesments, progress notes, MDS etc., but taking over someone elses whole system, cold, does have me a little anxious eh. Any advice going into this transfer?

Congratulations on moving up!! My first advice is to get everything you can out of the present Director as far as what works, what doesn't in terms of programming, suggestions for documentation, special interests of volunteers, any questions that you may have, be sure to ask. Next as you venture into a wonderful new domain, be gentle with yourself, serve your residents and have fun!! Best of luck to you!!
