Penny,

You really have a good start. The music is a great idea and very pleasant to the residents as long as its low,and soothing. We play light piano CDs We have found that just as at home, people like to always sit in their same places. So unless we lose a resident we try not to vary place settings. We do take our plates off the trays. Less like eating in a cafeteria. Fresh flowers are a must(small fish bowl with a few flowers) are a great way to use those funeral flower donations they usually last a week. I put food coloring in the water of the flowers as sometimes the water turns color before I can get them changed or the flowers die. We have residents do the flower arranging its another small group you know! The only thing we do not do is the evening pre meal activity. I suppose you could always offer some cheese and crackers like an appetizer.
Good luck......oh, we do use linen napkins at evening meal only for those attending DR for meals, roombound get paper napkins. We are a 205 bed facility.
